What is the danger of balanitis?

• Inflammation process of a balanus can switch to urethra, in other words lead to urinary tracts infection.
• Frequently inflammation of prepuce leads to formation of cicatricial phimosis.
• A prolonged inflammatory process of a balanus can lead to receptor apparatus atrophy and decrease of sensitivity of a balanus. This in the long run may negatively tell on potency and quality of sexual life.

How balanitis can be treated.

1. Hygienic proceduresIt is recommended to wash a balanus and prepuce several times a day to remove smegma and inflammatory discharge. Washing should be done carefully with soapy hands.
2. Everyday change of underwear
3. If it is impossible to open a balanus it is necessary to bathe a boy using solutions of furacillin, chamomile decoction, bur-marigold, weak manganese solution. This should be done for 15 - 20 minutes, 4 - 6 times a day.
   It is not worth using antibiotics for treatment for balanitis. Anti-infective agents are much more effective, and when used locally, no complications occur.
4. When balanitis tends to have permanent recurrent character, it is an indication for surgery treatment (circumcision).
