Cryptorhism - is maldevelopment, when one or both testicles do not descend to a scrotum. On the 9th month of antenatal development of a fetus a testicle must descend from an abdominal cavity through inguinal canal to a scrotum.
Normally a testicle must be defined in a scrotum with a full-term child during delivery or in the very first days.
Immediately after delivery, cryptorhism occurs with 10% of boys. By the first year 70% of them have spontaneous prolapse of testicle to a scrotum.
Emergence of cryptorhism is connected with two major factors. The first one is mechanical hindrance on the path of testicle migration (fusion of peritoneum, maldevelopment of vascular pedicle). The second one is dysfunction of endocrine glands (that regulate development of gonads) of a mother and fetus.
