Aorta-mesenteric fork is such an interlocation of vessels, when one of them can be squeezed by the other. At that, this fork is formed by aorta (4) and superior aorta-mesenteric artery (8), the latter deviating in acute angle from the aorta. At the same time left kidney vein (9) being situated right in the area of this fork can be pinched, thus increasing pressure in the vein. The following factors promote this compression: the wall of aorta and aorta-mesenteric artery is thick, while that of the vein is thin. Besides pressure in the aorta in artery many times exceeds pressure in the vein. That is why the fork pinches the vein easily. In addition to this it is necessary to bear in mind the fact that practically the whole bowels is on the aorta-mesenteric artery. When a persons stands, the bowels heaves down under the influence of gravity and thus it strains the artery. At this compression strength of the left kidney vein increases. That is why in vertical position varicocele increases, and in lying position decreases.
